Comparing Medicare Plans

The comparison page lines plans up in columns, one section at a time, so you can walk a client through costs, prescriptions, and benefits.

Choosing plans to compare

Check Compare on a plan card, in plan details, or on the client's current plan. Selected plans collect in a tray at the bottom of the page.

You can compare up to 5 plans, and you need at least 2. Click Compare in the tray when you're ready.

The top of the page

Each plan starts with its Part B giveback, carrier, name, star rating, and estimated total. The lowest total is marked Lowest. Click a plan name to open its details.

To take a plan out, click Remove above it. A comparison needs two plans, so removing down to one takes you back to your results.

The Costs section below shows premiums, prescriptions, the out-of-pocket maximum, the insulin cap, and deductibles.

Plan names stay in view

As you scroll, a bar stays pinned to the top with each plan's carrier and name, so you always know which column you're reading.

Prescriptions

The Prescriptions section opens on By month, so you can see how costs change through the year. Click Year total for the totals only.

Choosing the pharmacy

The buttons at the top of the section control which pharmacy the costs are based on:

  • Lowest per plan — each plan uses its own lowest-cost pharmacy, so plans may be priced at different pharmacies.

  • A specific pharmacy — every plan is priced at the pharmacy you pick.

The highlighted row directly below always shows which pharmacy is being quoted for each plan.

Seeing a month's detail

Click a month to see what each drug costs that month. The colored dots show which coverage stage applies, such as Deductible or Initial coverage. The lowest amount in each row appears in blue.

Cost per drug and pharmacy totals

Further down, Cost per drug shows each medication's costs and coverage for each plan, including its tier and whether it's covered. Total at each pharmacy lists every pharmacy's total. Select a row to use that pharmacy above.

Benefits

Benefits are grouped by category, such as Doctor Visits and Inpatient, with each plan in its own column.

Check Only show differences at the top of the page to hide the rows where every plan is the same.

Comparing a different plan type

You can compare the client's current plan with new plans even if it's a different type, such as a current MAPD against MA-only plans. Benefits compare as usual, but a plan outside the type you're quoting shows the premium only in its totals. A note at the top of the page tells you when this applies.

Comparing on a phone

Swipe sideways to move between plans. The pinned plan names move with the columns.

Saving the comparison

Click Save quote to save all of the plans together. A saved comparison counts as 1 of the client's 3 saved Medicare quotes.

Sharing the comparison

Click Share at the top of the page to email the comparison to the client or download it as a PDF. The PDF uses the pharmacy selected in the Prescriptions section.
