Reading Medicare Quote Results

Once a Medicare quote loads, you'll see every matching plan with its estimated cost. Here's how to read the results and narrow them down.

The quote settings

The panel on the left holds the settings behind the estimates. Change one and the results update.

  • Plan year — the year being quoted.

  • Cost period — Full year or Rest of year. Rest of year runs from next month through December, and isn't available for a future plan year.

  • Extra Help / LIS — for plans with Part D, this uses the level saved on the client's profile. If nothing is saved, it's set to None and no assistance is applied. Choose a different level and click Save to profile to change it.

  • Prescriptions and Pharmacies — what's being priced. You can edit either one from here.

Reading a plan card

Each card shows the carrier, plan name, star rating, and monthly premium. Below that is the estimated cost for the period: Premiums + Prescriptions = Total

The card also lists the in-network maximum, medical and drug deductibles, primary care and specialist costs, and included extras such as dental, vision, or OTC.

Open Prescriptions on the card to see whether each drug is covered.

Good to know: Prescription amounts are estimates and may differ at the pharmacy. They don't include medical out-of-pocket costs.

The Part B giveback

Plans with a Part B giveback show it in a banner across the top of the card, along with the amount per month.

The giveback lowers the client's Part B premium. It's not subtracted from the plan's estimated total, so compare it alongside the total.

The client's current plan

If the client's existing coverage is in this market, it appears above the results as Current plan, Current plan next year, or Pending application. Click View plan to open it, or check Compare to add it to a comparison.

Sorting and filtering

Use the search box to find a plan, company, or plan ID. Sort by:

  • Total Estimated Cost

  • Lowest premium

  • Most drugs covered

  • Highest star rating

  • Highest Part B giveback

Click Filters to narrow the list by costs, plan type, extra benefits, special needs plans, CMS star rating, and insurance company.

Opening plan details

Click Plan details on any card for the full picture.

  • Cost summary — the estimated total, premium, prescriptions, and Part B giveback.

  • Pharmacy options — switch between pharmacies to see the costs at each one, or click Add pharmacy.

  • Monthly chart — what the client pays each month, including when the deductible applies.

  • Cost per drug — retail price and cost by coverage stage for each medication.

  • Plan benefits — medical benefits, drug tiers, and any optional packages.

Click Edit drugs & pharmacies to change what's priced, then Update estimates. Drug edits also update the Health section. Pharmacy changes apply only to this quote.

To email or download the plan, click Share at the top of the page.

Heads up: Benefits come from available CMS plan data. Check the plan's Evidence of Coverage for complete terms before presenting a plan.

Reading the cost per drug

The selected month is highlighted in the chart, and Cost per drug shows that month. Select a different month in the chart to change it.

Each medication shows:

  • The selected month's cost, shown large, with the coverage stage it falls in. If a fill crosses two stages, you'll see the amount in each.

  • The full-year or rest-of-year cost just below it.

  • Stage changes, shown as small buttons such as Mar · Initial coverage. Click one to jump to that month.

  • Drug cost per stage, at the bottom. This is the price of one fill at Retail, Initial coverage, and Catastrophic. It doesn't change with the month you select.
